One of Portland’s top-dog ice creameries continues to expand, the Portland Mercury reports. Ruby Jewel, known for its ice cream sandwiches and heavy-duty flavors like black bottom cupcake, will open a scoop shop in the former Abbey Bar & Bottleshop on NW 23rd. This will be the ice cream chain’s first location in Northwest Portland — the brand currently has locations on N Mississippi, SE Hawthorne, and SW 12th. The new shop should open in May.

Meanwhile, another ice cream shop prepares to open in Northwest: Chickpea-based ice cream company Little Bean will open its first store in March, according to its the Instagram account. The sign and lighting are up in the new space; stay tuned for updates on both new ice cream shops.
