A new sandwich shop is coming to the Pearl District, packing some serious culinary talent. Counter-service spot Break Bread will sling hearty sandwiches named for Bob’s Burgers characters, a handful of salads, and a killer happy hour.
Break Bread comes from Michael Mina restaurant group alum Pierce Cavallero and Kaitlin Stein, who spent years at famed San Francisco sandwich shop Ike’s. The restaurant will serve around a dozen sandwiches, including three meat-free options; Cavallero says the current recipe testing favorite has been his vegetarian Despacito sandwich, which gets a heavy dose of roasted poblano and corn, cilantro crema, chipotle aioli, tomatoes, avocado, and tortilla chips for crunch.
Still, the restaurant will offer a ton of meaty monsters, including a couple pastrami sandwiches; one pastrami-reuben-style sandwich swaps the kraut for purple cabbage and pickled shallots, adding an extra mess of caramelized onions. The menu mainly sticks to poultry, however, with half of its sandwiches using turkey or chicken as its protein base. The restaurant’s bread options also include gluten-free alternatives.
Cavallero is particularly excited about his beer list, which sticks to the West Coast; all beers are $5, but they are knocked down to $3 during happy hour from 2 p.m. to close. The restaurant also serves a handful of wines, including several canned wines. Break Bread should open April 15. Check out the menu below.
