H Mart is Really, Actually Opening Soon

The long-awaited Korean market will open its doors April 10

Nearly two years after the original announcement that Korean superstore H Mart would be taking over the old Zupan’s location on SE Belmont, it’s looking like it will happen in a few weeks. The Willamette Week reported last night that the market, which has locations in Beaverton and in Tigard (as well as nationally), will open its doors on Belmont on April 10.

The store’s original plan was to open in the early part of 2018, according to the Portland Business Journal back in 2017, but repeated delays moved it to fall of 2018, and then finally its newest date, announced with banners in its windows alongside of “help wanted” posters. Representatives from Shiels Obletz Johnsen, the company behind the Belmont Dairy building that H Mart resides in, were not available to speak with Eater PDX, but told the Willamette Week that the signs were accurate.

Before the Korean market and dining center officially opens its doors, shoppers can get a crash course on how to navigate its shelves of kimchi and marinated meats with this Eater video.
