An Alberta Street smoothie bowl shop will soon deliver Brazilian staples to the Slabtown neighborhood. Carioca Bowls is opening a new location in Northwest Portland, complete with acai bowls, cheese bread pao de queijo, and a vegan version of the bean stew feijoada, The Oregonian first reported.
Like the original, Carioca Bowls’ new location will focus on its smoothie bowls; the cafe will offer customizable bowls with a choice of smoothie base and toppings like fruit, nuts, and butters. The cafe also has pre-designed bowls, topped with things like papaya and chocolate sauce. But Carioca Bowls won’t just offer acai — the restaurant plans to have a menu of warm dishes, including Brazilian classics and various toasts.
The cafe space, which should have around 35 seats inside and a 20-seat patio, will also host events like yoga and Brazilian-inspired festivals; the other Brazilian cafe opening this year, Foster-Powell’s Favela, also plans to throw Brazilian festivals and events. The cafe should open in August within the Carson apartment building — the farm-centric restaurant G Love will also open in the Carson complex — at 1625 NW 21st Avenue.
Update, May 16, 2019, 8:51 a.m.
This story has been updated to show that the restaurant’s feijoada will be vegan.
