This week was surprisingly eventful, with the arrival of a fancy hand-roll cafe, California-Mexican bar, and retro game bar called... Retro Game Bar. Still, a few other tidbits missed the boat, including some hot events coming this June and some changes to a hot and new European cafe.
WHEN ED MET KENJI — Ed Levine and J. Kenji Lopez-Alt, the two high-profile culinary celebrities known for Serious Eats, will hit Powell’s on June 25 for a talk about the history of the recipe site, even dating back to when Serious Eats wasn’t a recipe site. Levine is promoting his book on the topic, Serious Eater. [EaterWire]
SOMETHING FISHY — Prominent Portland restaurateur Vitaly Paley is starting a sustainable seafood festival this June. Sustainable Seafood PDX, set to run from June 21 to June 23, will involve dinners with chefs like Eater Young Guns Jacob Harth and Maya Lovelace, lectures from sustainability advocates, and a salmon brunch. Tickets are now available on the Headwaters website. [Portland Monthly]
ANCHORS AWAY — Anchor End, Fremont’s new-ish Polish-Hungarian cafe, is making some changes. The owners’ original Vancouver, Washington cart will close, which means all of its popular soft pretzel sandwiches will make it onto the cafe’s menu. Plus, next weekend, the cafe will start serving brunch, which includes the previously promised pierogi Benedict. Take a look at the new brunch and expanded lunch menus below. [EaterWire]
