An under-the-radar downtown food cart has stopped serving tacos temporarily after a fire.

On the morning of April 27, La Piñata Takos caught fire on SW 3rd, leaving the Mexican food cart charred and out of commission for four-to-six weeks, according to the owners. According to Lieutenant Rich Chatman of Portland Fire & Rescue, the fire likely started because a someone left the stove on, eventually setting the entire cart ablaze.

An Eater tipster first learned about the closing via a sign posted on the cart’s window. “Everyone is okay,” the sign reads. “We will be closed until further notice.” The food cart is a favorite lunch spot for downtown employees, known for its $1.50 fish tacos and late weekend hours (the cart often stays open until 3 a.m. on the weekends). Although the posted sign says fans should check Facebook for more updates, the cart’s phone number might be a better bet: (503) 943-9725. The cart is currently located at 108 SW 3rd Avenue.
