It’s Friday, which means it’s time for the weekly Stuff Eater PDX Didn’t Cover column, also known as EaterWire. Sure, Eater PDX covered some stuff this week — like Portland’s several impending closures, including Montavilla institution the Country Cat — but there were a few little news nuggets that never got their day on the homepage. Read on for more:
NO DEAL — Little Big Burger won’t officially unionize (at least not yet): the burger chain’s burgeoning union lost its official election on Tuesday. Of the 109 potential voters, only 29 voted in favor of the union; 41 votes were cast against it. Although Little Big Union has acknowledged the loss, the union is still considering next steps to fight for the chain’s workers. [Portland Mercury]
JUST TOO CHEAP — Southeast Portland bar the Standard will nix its classic $1 Hamm’s happy hour deal out of necessity. According to the owner, the Standard’s insurance provider wouldn’t renew the bar’s policy because of it. [Willamette Week]
BRAND NEW VEGANS — Berlu, the high-end tasting menu spot from Castagna alum Vince Nguyen, will serve a 100 percent vegan menu this weekend. This will be the first 100 percent vegan meal in the new restaurant space. Tickets to the $70 dinner are available on Tock. [EaterWire]
