It’s Friday, which means it’s time for the weekly Stuff Eater PDX Didn’t Cover column, also known as EaterWire. Sure, Eater PDX covered some stuff this week — like Portland’s new distillery restaurant and Micah Camden’s chicken spot — but there were a few little news nuggets that never got their day on the homepage. Read on for more:
TAD’S TO SAY TA TA — Tad’s Chicken N Dumplins, a Columbia River Gorge staple for old-school chicken and dumplings with riverside views, is now for sale. It’s been open since 1947, but owner Judy Jones says she wants to retire. It’s listed for $2.5 million and remains open. [The Oregonian]
NO TO LARDO — Earlier this summer, Screen Door and Good Coffee announced plans to open in Portland International Airport. Turns out, it scored those spots over some pretty tempting competitors. According to official records, PDX rejected proposals from Lardo, Bunk Sandwiches, and 10 Barrel Brewing, among others. [The O]
ARDEN OF EDEN — Arden, the posh Pearl wine bar with a high-end restaurant, just made Wine Spectator’s Restaurant Awards list. To celebrate, the bar will sell all bottles for half price every Thursday. [EaterWire]
SANDWICH WIRE — In other awards news, two Portland shops made Thrillist’s lists of the best sandwiches in America: Eater 38 stalwart Lardo and Stacked Sandwiches, home of 2017 Chef of the Year Gabriel Pascuzzi. It looks like Portland’s sandwich game has not slouched since the golden age. [Thrillist]
