It’s Friday, which means it’s time for the weekly EaterWire round up of all those news items we didn’t quite cover. This week marked not one, but two beloved restaurants closing, as well as an attempted burglary. There’s also a new fast-casual spot in Hillsboro, and a popular tea shop has a fun new pastry. Read on for more:
FRUIT IN A RUSH — Rush Bowls, a national chain of vegetable, fruit, and açai bowls, just got its first location in the Portland metro area, with a spot in Tanasbourne. The casual, grab-and-go style restaurant features a broad assortment of bowls with fruits and vegetables as the base, topped with everything from peanut butter to frozen yogurt. Located in a bit of a food-desert, it offers a new breakfast option for Hillsboro residents and those schlepping in from Portland. [EPDX]
MATCHA LIBRE — Tea Bar, the sleek, minimalist local chainlet of bubble tea and tea-latte shops, has teamed up with local bakery Nuvrei on a new matcha croissant. The powered-green pastries will be available at all four locations, and today the first 50 of them at each store will be free with the purchase of a tea. [EPDX]
MIX IT UP — Next week, four Portland bartenders will compete in the West Regional Finals for the Most Imaginative Bartender Competition, one of the largest bartending contests in the world, which tasks bartenders to make up new, exciting, imaginative drinks. For those who follow that level of cocktail-nerdery, Cameron Holck (Departure), Estanislado Orona (Botanist), Lydia McLuen (Tope), and Jamie Socci (Pepe Le Moko) will each be competing to represent Portland in England later in the year.
