Move over, Nicolas Cage: There’s (maybe) a new celebrité in town. Portland’s social media channels have been buzzing with rumors that Guy Fieri, the man behind the popular Food Network shows Guy’s Grocery Games and Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, is currently in Portland.
Fieri’s personal social media accounts have been pretty quiet, but that’s not true of the people who encountered him. Portland author Shawn Levy posted a tweet about a sighting, including a selfie and a picture of Fieri’s famous vintage Camaro with its “FLVRTWN” license plate. According to Levy, a friend of Chin’s Kitchen owner Wendy Li invited him to help fill seats for a shoot.
“We didn’t exactly break bread with the man: We were served beef noodle soup, dumplings, and orange chicken, and while we ate Guy sat with us and asked us questions,” Levy says in an email. “He was exactly the dude he is on TV (though, surprisingly, taller than I thought he’d be), very friendly and quick-spoken and very engaged with whomever he chatted with.” Levy said he heard Seasons & Regions, Otto’s Sausage Kitchen, and Viking Soul Food were also on the docket, but he can’t confirm that as the official location list.

Both Portland seafood staple Seasons & Regions and meat market Otto’s confirmed that Guy rolled through on social media, posting photos of the man himself within the meat market and behind the counter. “Look who came to Otto’s today!” the Otto’s post reads. “Thanks Guy and crew! You are all amazing.” The Seasons & Regions post says chef Greg Schwab cooked Fieri cioppino and Dungeness crab leg risotto.

The Portland Trail Blazers’ official Twitter account also posted a picture of the mayor of Flavortown, wearing a camouflage jacket in the stands. The caption? “Flavortown in Blazertown.”

The big rumor is that Fieri specifically shot scenes at Guero, the popular torta restaurant in Kerns; so far, we’ve heard no confirmation from Fieri’s team, and Guero owner Alec Morrison could not confirm nor deny the restaurant’s presence on the show. It should be noted that three days ago, Guero posted on Instagram saying the restaurant would be closed for “two whole days,” with a picture of a camera’s monitor. “We’ll all be blessed with something very excellent when it’s over!” the caption reads, with a film camera emoji.
Still, there’s no official confirmation that Fieri is officially shooting an episode in Portland right now: His media representation hasn’t responded to requests for comment. Those who have spotted or photographed Fieri in the Portland wild should let us know via the tip line.
