Sprinkle-covered sugar cookie bars, rainbow swirl cupcakes, and assorted macarons are coming to a new bakery in Creston-Kenilworth. Unicorn Bake Shop will open February 29, with an array of traditional, vegan, and gluten-free treats.
Carrie Padian grew up baking with her mother in Atlanta. “Those were the nicest moments, baking with her,” she remembers. “That always brought me joy.” Years later, feeling particularly bogged down by the political climate, Paidan decided to start a baking delivery company, making cheerful cakes for birthday parties and events. The company was successful enough that she decided to open her own business, a bakery full of colorful cupcakes, cookies, and treats covered in sprinkles and multicolor frosting. “We’re definitely not afraid of bright colors,” she says.
The bakery will stick to sweets, but none of Padian’s desserts will be saccharine sweet — she likes to use chocolates and salt to balance desserts, including mousses and cakes. Outside of desserts, the bakery will offer drip coffee from Bright Eyes Coffee and Clackamas’ Cup of Tea teas; espresso and smoothies are available next door, at the Best Friend’s new cafe. The bakery itself will be a touch less colorful than the desserts themselves, sticking to bright white walls and a pastel mural. “We started with a crazy palate with colors everywhere, but luckily I found a great designer,” she says. “It’ll be a place for a nice, quiet moment in your day when you can reset.”
Unicorn Bake Shop will open at 2824 SE Gladstone Street.
