It’s Friday, which means it’s time for the weekly EaterWire round up of all those news items we didn’t quite cover. This week involved ramen brand Afuri’s big expansion plans and cooking classes for people in recovery, but a few stories did fall through the cracks:
CASTAGNA CHANGES — Essential fine dining spot Castagna will switch things up this spring. Starting March 4, the restaurant will stick to a single 10-course menu for $125, a $40-dollar discount compared to the current price. The menu will also be completely new, a transition away from classics like the “potato skin” dessert and the restaurant’s foie gras. The new menu will include dishes like “tartare on the bone,” as well as Dungeness crab with a manzanilla olive bearnaise. [EaterWire]
POPPIN STRAWS — Pacific Northwestern coffee kiosk chain Dutch Bros hired rapper Macklemore as the executive creative director for Dutch Bros Cold Brew. A spokesperson says he’ll help develop new flavors, then performing at a private company event called Coacha. [FOX]
BURNING CANOE — Investigators deemed the January fire at Troutdale restaurant Shirley’s Tippy Canoe “suspicious.” According to Corbett Fire District 14, “several unusual circumstances [...] occurred in the days and hours leading up to the fire.” Other businesses owned by Shirley’s owner Shirley Welton have caught fire, including Shirley’s At the Beach in Lincoln City.
