Chef Gabriel Rucker, the man behind two of Portland’s most beloved restaurants — high-end dining spot Le Pigeon and its bistro counterpart Canard — suddenly has a lot of time on his hands due to the COVID-19 outbreak. Both of his restaurants closed indefinitely on March 17 after Gov. Kate Brown’s executive order to close bars and dining rooms, so tonight at 6 p.m. PST, chef Rucker will be giving live cooking lessons on Instagram.
”My job as chef of Pigeon and Canard is essentially one big live cooking demo,” says Rucker, referencing the open kitchens at his two establishments. “I want to stay connected to people and give them a chance to see how I cook in a more relaxed environment.” He’ll be posting recipes and notes ahead of time on his Instagram Stories, and then will use the Instagram Live function to stream his show.
Tonight’s recipe is miso-cod rice bowls, and he’ll mix things up as the show goes, including a future “perfect-your-omelet-game” episode. He plans to stream Wednesdays and Thursdays at 6 p.m. and Sundays at noon, and will post recipes ahead of time.
