77 New COVID-19 Cases at an Oregon Seafood Plant

Pacific Seafood has temporarily suspended operations at its Warrenton plant after discovering a massive coronavirus outbreak within its ranks. Seventy-seven employees have tested positive for coronavirus, which makes it the largest workplace outbreak in Clatsop County. Pacific Seafood has been hit with a number of workplace outbreaks, including at the Newport and Bandon locations; it’s not the Warrenton location’s first case, either. [DA]

Bob’s Red Mill Is Hiring to Accommodate the Pandemic Baking Boom

While many restaurants and bars have been struggling during the pandemic, many other food businesses — grocery stores, food brands — have actually been doing pretty well. In Oregon, food and beverage stores have increased employment by 900 employees in the past 12 months, compared to the tens of thousands of restaurant and bar jobs lost during the pandemic. One such business looking to expand is Bob’s Red Mill, the company known for its oatmeals and flours: The company wants to grow its workforce by 11 percent, to accommodate the higher demand as people get into pandemic baking while stuck at home.
