July 1 will bring Portland 70-degree weather and sunshine, the sounds of explosives prematurely resounding through the city, and National Ice Cream Month. In celebration of June gloom's exit, Portland's culinary power-players are making ice cream their medium of choice for exploring innovative ingredients and flavor combinations. Flavors range from the earnest to the confrontational — you know, flavors that say, "Go on, I dare you to like me." But whichever ice cream or gelato you choose from the following list of frozen offerings, it's sure to be unorthodox and unexpected. Plus, you're probably more than a little bored of salted caramel, right?
