There always seems to be a picnic table open on Landmark's supersized patio; the honky tonk is free; and you never have to wait long to get in on a competitive game of cornhole. Sample a new microbrew or a countrified cocktail like spiked Southern lemonade. Once you’ve worked up an appetite, head inside for nachos, or hit up the Leroy’s BBQ cart parked in the patio for some killer brisket, pulled pork, and mac 'n' cheese.

3. Skyline Tavern

8031 NW Skyline Blvd
Portland, OR 97229
(503) 286-4788
Portlanders collectively held their breath when this 1924 West Hills gem went up for sale last December. But now that the saloon has reopened under new owners who had the good sense to keep the horseshoe pits and BYO-style community grill intact, we can all exhale. The only thing that seems to have changed is the menu with a hummus platter, meat and cheese board, and panini options for carnivores, vegetarians, and vegans alike.

If you’ve never been to this under-the-radar spot in St. Johns, get a group together for bocce or ping pong in the cheerful, flower-filled outdoor space. Snacks like a Caprese sandwich, kale salad, and build-you-own bruschetta will keep you going for hours and hours.

Sherwood, OR 97140
If sipping local wines at a bocce court with a panoramic view of the Chehalem Mountains sounds like the ideal way to spend a summer Sunday, head to Ponzi Vineyards in Sherwood. Nothing pairs better with the classic Italian lawn game than a crisp, white Arneis or spicy, red Dolcetto and some Mediterranean snacks. The Ponzi family brought these Italian grape varietals back to the Willamette Valley in the 1990s when they realized the similarities between the two climates.
