Chefs have been rapidly unveiling beefy behemoths across Portland in 2017, and that means it's time to update the Burger Heatmap: the map featuring the best new burgers in the city. This month, say "So long" to the burgers at Little Bird, La Moule, Home Bar, Smokehouse Tavern, and Tryst. (Looking for the long-running burgers that make Portland Portland? Head to the essential burgers map.)

Taking their places? Burgers at Bless Your Heart Burgers, Parasol, Jackrabbit, Guero No. 1 Tortas, Superbite, and Ray. Plus an oldie returns, as the cult burger at now-shuttered Club 21 has reared its head at the new Lay Low Tavern.

Happy teeth-sinking, Portland. (Note the points on this map are not ranked; rather, they are organized geographically.)

Lay Low Tavern

Club 21 may be a thing of the past, but thanks to owners Warren Boothby and Marcus Archambeault, its burger is definitely a thing of the present. The duo resurrected this juicy Lucy at Lay Low Tavern, the new bar that replaced longtime dive, Coasters. The burgers come with the usual fixins—lettuce, tomatoes, onion, pickles, and ketchup and mustard—but its that molten cheese-and-bacon mixture buried in the center of each patty that gives this burger its oomph, making an old burger new again.

Parasol

Parasol is Biwa’s new kid sister restaurant, and when it opened, it borrowed a bona fide ringer from its sibling: the formerly elusive Biwa burger. The Parasol burger is very similar. It still has pork (crispy pork belly) but has added pickles and swapped out the kimchi mayo for a new special sauce. The Parasol burger can be ordered at any time of the night.

Jackrabbit

Chris Cosentino’s new altar of meat does braised rabbits and pig heads, but it also does a burger that ought to win him some Portland street cred. The “ham” burger comes with gruyere cheese, caramelized onions, and homemade pickles, but the surprise twist—well, you probably can actually see this coming—is that the patty is made from ground deli ham in lieu of beef.
