Where to Eat and Party on Halloween 2018 in Portland
Here are the best spots to get your Monster Mash on

McMenamins Kennedy School
On Saturday, October 27, McMenamins’ hotel, venue, and bar housed in vintage elementary school starts the day off with a 5k Halloween run at the mercifully late time of 11 a.m. Registration for the run is $30, which includes an ale and a “keepsake item.” At 7 p.m. My Siamese Twin is playing a free concert, and the venue is throwing a costume party in The Gymnasium, with plenty of food and drink options from the bar.

Expatriate
The dark and intimate cocktail bar Expatriate is the perfect setting for a spooky Halloween pop-up collaboration, which is exactly what it’s getting on October 31. Gado Gado will be bringing some Indonesian and Southeast Asian flavors mixed with American carnival classics, like a blood sausage corndog. Eric Nelson of the tropical cocktail series Shipwreck and Michelle Ruocco of Han Oak will be slinging cocktails, and Expatriate co-owner Kyle Webster will spinning records. The party goes from 5 p.m. to 12 a.m. with no cover and a costume contest from 7 to 9 p.m.

Aviary
It’s not exactly spooky, but the delicious lobster rolls at Aviary are only available on Wednesdays. Since Halloween falls on that day this year, chef and owner Sarah Pliner is giving away these buttery treats to any customer wearing a full size lobster costume; that should be reason enough to pick that as your Halloween costume.

McMenamins 23rd Ave Bottle Shop
McMenamins 23rd Avenue Bottle Shop, with more than 800 bottles available as well as draught beers, is holding the best kind of costume contest there is—on Friday, October 26, guests are encouraged to bring dogs in their Halloween costumes while enjoying candy paired with local beers. Just be sure not to give the pups any of the chocolate.

The Hairy Lobster
Cozy dining room Hairy Lobster goes all out for Halloween each year, and 2018 is going to be its biggest yet. The restaurant is going to be decked out in Halloween decorations, serving a special menu on October 30 and 31 that is anything but scary — butternut squash, mushroom, and cabbage fritters; steelhead with smoked salmon roe and gnocchi; and black angus beef tenderloin make up the menu, with toffee pumpkin cake for dessert. For those who find eating meat too spooky, a vegetarian menu will also be available. Reservations are $65 per person, available by calling (971) 229-1166.
