The patio at Ok Omens
| Ok Omens/Official

For a city that sees rain some eight months out of the year, Portland has always been oddly flush with patios for its many bars — nearly every cocktail spot and beer bar has at least some kind of outdoor seating. Now, in the midst of a pandemic with dining room service severely limited, those outdoor areas may be a lifesaver for bars, especially as the state has yet to make a move to legalize to-go cocktails, unlike our neighbors to the north and south.

This map includes the most spacious outdoor dining areas for bars, pubs, and cocktail lounges, but not breweries (that map is coming soon). A more comprehensive list of restaurants open for dining is available here.

Studies indicate that there is a lower exposure risk when outdoors, but the level of risk involved with patio dining is contingent on bars following strict social distancing and other safety guidelines. This map should not be taken as endorsement for dining in, as there are still safety concerns: for updated information on coronavirus cases in your area, please visit the Oregon Health Authority’s COVID update page.
