In “normal” times, Portland is lit up with prix fixe meals, dinner specials, and booze-fueled parties on New Year’s Eve. While extravagant parties will certainly be a fun activity to resume next year, it is a long-held belief that New Year’s Eve is best celebrated with fancy takeout. Parties are kind of overrated anyway, and this year the pressure to dress in our best outfits and head out into the freezing cold has been completely removed. With no other option than to be at home on NYE, watching TV, and maybe banging on pots and pans at the stroke of midnight, treat yourself to a feast from one of Portland’s stalwart food businesses that’ll keep you going until the clock strikes 12 —all that champagne needs some cushion and company. And if abstaining from alcohol is your jam this year, there’s plenty else here to consume.

This map ranges from the elaborate dinners to lighter fare, to places to get dessert and drinks. It also includes both places where a pre-order is necessary, and spots that will simply be open that day serving celebratory fare. As usual, this map is organized geographically, not ranked.

Note: A number of Portland restaurants have resumed outdoor dining. The level of service offered is indicated on each map point. However, this should not be taken as endorsement for dining in, as there are still safety concerns: for updated information on coronavirus cases in your area, please visit the Oregon Health Authority’s COVID update page. Studies indicate that there is a lower exposure risk when outdoors, but the level of risk involved with patio dining is contingent on restaurants following strict social distancing and other safety guidelines.
