Thanksgiving this year may have a somewhat somber tone — as COVID-19 rates continue to rise horrifically fast, many are opting to stay home rather than have a family gathering that could endanger safety. But for those looking for some comfort in these times, pies are a good way to go, especially after a turkey dinner. From the standards like pumpkin and apple to the more wild, here are a number of bakeries, restaurants, and cafes offering pies for pickup. Many of these places have cut-offs for ordering, but also may sell out, so putting in orders sooner than later is generally advised. Per usual, this map is organized geographically, and is not ranked.

A bakery out on Capitol Highway, Baker and Spice has a large array of Thanksgiving dessert offerings, from classic pumpkin pies and double-crusted apple pies to chocolate cream pies and savory galettes. Additionally, the bakery has other Thanksgiving baked good like scones, croissants, and maple twists. Baker and Twist has a helpful website for ordering, and all orders must be placed by November 22, with pickup times on Tuesday and Wednesday of Thanksgiving week.

The pumpkin pies are decorated with curling swirls of cinnamon spice cream and caramel Chantilly cream, as well as chocolate plaques and edible gold flakes; they clock in at $45 each. Additionally, the shop is offering a pumpkin cheesecake for $50. Customers can order both by texting (503) 828-7728 with the order, name, and pickup times for either November 24 or November 25.

Living up to its name, Pacific Pie Company offers all of the obligatory Thanksgiving desserts — classic apple, pumpkin, pecan, and a host of others, all at $35, including a refundable $5 deposit for a glass pie pan. However, the bakery also offers a selection of savory holiday pies for $26 (no glass), so those looking to escape cooking can find turkey pies, gluten-free beef cottage pie, vegan and gluten-free lentil shepherd’s pie, and other meatier options. The menu is online and orders can be placed by emailing catering@pacificpieco.com.

A storied restaurant and bakery with two locations in town, Papa Haydn is better known for its many cakes than for pie. However, this month it will serve a number of holiday specials, including maple gingerbread cake, English toffee cheesecake, and a pretty stellar fresh cranberry walnut tart. Other specials include holiday cookie boxes and a host of mini desserts for entertaining (safely, please). Pre-orders are available online through November 20, with pickup time on Tuesday and Wednesday before Thanksgiving.

Grand Central Bakery - Hawthorne cafe

A local bakery group, Grand Central Bakery will have all of its locations open the day before Thanksgiving for order pickups. In addition to pies like pumpkin, bourbon pecan, apple, and marionberry, there’s also rolls, biscuits, and coffee cake for the morning. Orders are available online starting November 13, and must be filled by November 21, and the menu is available here.

Montelupo Italian Market

An Italian marketplace might not be the most obvious choice for Thanksgiving dinner, but Montelupo has a number of pies for the holiday. The nine-inch pies available include pumpkin mascarpone, cranberry curd, and salted caramel pecan pies, as well as a few others. Those opting for a less “traditional” Thanksgiving dinner can find take-and-bake lasagna bolognese and a vegetarian pasta, as well as more traditional sides. Orders can be placed online, and must be submitted by November 22 for pickup on November 24 and November 25.

One of the city’s most beloved pie shops, Lauretta Jean’s always pulls out the stops for Thanksgiving. The classics are all there, like heirloom apple and bourbon pecan, as well as some fun others like blackberry and raspberry streusel or key lime pie, each for $37. Orders can be placed online, and need to be filled by November 21 at 6 p.m., though sooner is later as specials have already begun to sell out.
