Where to Throw a Bachelorette Party in Portland

From the bars with dancing to the luxe spots for a rocks glass of whiskey

| Departure/Official

It’s so boring to plan a bachelorette party with phoned-in cliches: Not every bride-to-be is interested in penis-shaped cakes and male strippers. Brides — like, you know, people — have their own interests, whether they include blended drinks or karaoke or a tall beer or a big steak. The map below has spots for every type of bride, from those looking to dance and drink something with blue curaçao in it to those seeking an Old Fashioned in a leather booth with a few friends. There are places to rent out a room and throw a rager, and big-group-friendly restaurants for sharing a big feast. Many of the spots on this list include potential secondary locations, from clubs to hotel rooms, because if there’s something universal about bachelorette parties, it’s that they’re usually pretty eventful. For more ideas, Eater Portland’s map of celebration restaurants, private dining rooms, and essential bars may provide more options.

Per usual, this map is ranked, not organized geographically.

Radio Room

In an artsy-funky space on Alberta, Radio Room is a good choice for a relaxed meal with plenty of drinks. Whether it’s more of a bachelorette brunch or a late-night party on the upstairs patio, Radio Room can accommodate most, and easily handles larger parties.

Victoria Bar

With its ritzy interior touches and expansive, rustic patio, Victoria Bar allows visitors to reserve a portion of its space for big parties. Throw in a photo booth and some bright and lively drinks, and Victoria Bar is a good choice for mellower groups, though it can get lively on the weekends.

Clyde's Prime Rib Restaurant and Bar

Sometimes, the night before a wedding calls for a hunk of beef and some live music. This old school steakhouse in Rose City Park is a killer spot for a slab of prime rib in a comfy booth, followed by Manhattans and jazz in the lounge.

Hale Pele

Tiki bars are hard to beat for festive nights, and Hale Pele, with its flaming volcano bowl and island-themed decor, is likely the city’s best. Parties of 12 or fewer can reserve the chieftain’s hut, a cozy little nook for lively toasts.

Breakside Brewery - NW Slabtown

The Northwest Portland location of one of the city’s favorite breweries is roomy, airy, and well-suited to big groups. The snack-y plates, like furikake shrimp cocktail and braised beef nachos, are a smart choice with sampler trays of the brewery’s latest.

Darcelle XV

If the ideal bachelorette party involves drag, Darcelle’s is the place to go, with starry stage hosts performances most nights and male strippers late in the evening on Fridays and Saturdays. Stiff drinks and some of Portland’s top drag talent make Darcelle’s an obvious choice for bachelorette parties.

Country fans know Dixie is the place to be for dancing, but the bar dips its toes into other styles of music so everyone can have a good time. Plus, Dixie can host big parties, for those looking for their own space among the ruckus.

Scotch Lodge

Another intimate spot, Scotch Lodge is a great place to start the night on the east side. In a chic, cool subterranean space, Scotch Lodge offers high-end whiskeys and killer food before a night of debauchery. The move is to start at Scotch Lodge for fried brie and fancy cocktails, before transitioning to Rum Club for daiquiris, Century for DJs or sports, and/or Slammer for good-old-fashioned pitchers of beer — all are within walking distance.

Revelry

With its high-energy space, flavored soju, snackable plates, and thumping music, Revelry seems born for parties. Like Scotch Lodge, Revelry is an easy walk to other party-friendly bars, to keep things going once the meal is over.

Multnomah Whiskey Library

When a bachelorette party is really about a well-made whiskey drink, a comfy leather booth, and hard-to-find spirits, the old school charm of Multnomah Whiskey Library is very hard to beat. The one thing that’s tough about MLW is making a reservation — non-members will need to buy a $25 hall pass to reserve a spot, and reservations are only open for groups up to eight.

Bullard

The benefit of doing dinner at the upscale and steakhouse-vibed Bullard is that it’s meant for group dining: Most of the mains, like San Antonio chicken and ribeye fajitas, are meant to be shared with larger groups. After a dinner of margarita pitchers and slow-smoked beef ribs, partiers can stroll over to Abigail Hall, a pink-hued cocktail bar with vodka red bull gimlets. When the party is over, the bar and restaurant’s home, the Woodlark hotel, can be the crash pad.

The Goodfoot | Music, DJs, Art, and Food since 2001

Another primo spot for dancing, the Goodfoot hosts tons of live soul and funk bands in its basement venue. Parties should start upstairs with burgers, pool, and cocktails before revelers trot downstairs to dance. Once the night is winding down, a stumble over to Baby Doll for pizza is in order.

Departure Restaurant + Lounge

Departure feels Los Angeles-clubby based on appearances alone, which makes it a smart choice for celebrations. The cocktails are fun, the food is easily shared and accommodates an array of diets and allergies, and the music is usually party-ready. Plus, if it’s a nice day, there are patio seats for photos with a view. Departure is in the heart of downtown, so if the festivities call for club-hopping, Old Town is steps away.

This hip and moody basement bar is the place to be when it’s open, with rotating bartenders making a number of cool themed drinks. The party can stay down in Voysey, or it can emerge from the depths and head to the nearby Loyal Legion for beer and whiskey or Voicebox for karaoke.

Holocene

Holocene is a good bet for those seeking a bachelorette dance party. The hip nightclub regularly hosts dance parties, from those themed for specific artists to decades to genres. Plus, in the heart of Buckman, parties can wander over to other standbys like Dig a Pony, White Owl Social Club, and the Liquor Store.

Circa 33

This 30s-themed cocktail bar on Belmont is a nice spot for vintage cocktails, but the thing to do here is to rent out the room behind the bookcase, with shuffleboard and a piano for retro parties. The private room can also serve catered snacks, like fancy chicken nuggets (“fried chicken bites”) and Oregon mushroom crostini.

Aalto Lounge

Aalto is an obvious choice for most parties, mainly because anyone can reserve a room within the sleek space without a food and beverage minimum or deposit. Plus, the bar’s cocktail menu includes party-friendly options like fancy Jell-O shots.

Palomar

Palomar’s creative and well-made daiquiris, pineapple gin shots, and Cuba-themed decor make it a fun bachelorette party hangout, especially for small parties. In the summers, bigger groups can rent out the bar’s rooftop, with a view of the city.

Baby Ketten Klub

Baby Ketten Club has one of the most expansive karaoke lists around, with artists from Fiona Apple to the Replacements to the Spice Girls. With a main karaoke room and rentable private rooms, Baby Ketten works for attention-seekers looking to perform for the public and tight-knit groups wanting to keep the audience small.
